DC's Beloved "Sing Out for Shelter" Concert's 25th Anniversary: Whiffenpoofs cast their spell

The fight against homelessness in Greater Washington was the winner of Saturday’s highly successful “Sing Out for Shelter” concert as cumulative proceeds for the last 25 years topped $300,000.

All funds are distributed to Christ House, Friendship Place, and Metropolitan House, agencies working tirelessly in the District on behalf of our homeless population.

The packed house at Metropolitan United Methodist Church was treated to a memorable evening of a cappella music, emceed by CNN’s Jim Sciutto, featuring hosts The Augmented 8, the Vassar Devils, the Knightlights of the Washington Waldorf School, and—a dramatic last minute substitution—the oldest

Rhett Stuart Hurls 5 Perfect Innings!

The Emory Eagles were down 4-0 to Case Western Re-serve after 3 1/2 innings when Rhett was brought in from the bullpen in centerfield. He shut down the #13 nationally ranked Spartans the rest of the game, retiring all 15 batters he faced. Unfortunately, Emory never scored and lost their third consecutive game in Cleveland, after winning the opening game in the series.

Back in Atlanta, in the opener against arch rival Washington University, Rhett stretched his perfect streak to 21 batters, before hitting one with a pitch. He retired the next two batters in the ninth to save the first of three wins against the Bears.

We are thrilled that Rhett is even pitching in his senior year after suffering a ruptured

Still a Seller's Market: DC's housing numbers are in for February 2018

Every month, I review DC's home sale prices, how long it's taking to sell a home, what percentage of list price sellers are getting, and how those indicators seem to be trending. The numbers for February are in (thanks to our friends at the Bright MLS), and I'd like to share them with you here - along with my insights.

Perhaps the most important indicator in the housing market's direction is the change in home prices compared to the same month last year. The chart below (from MarketStats by ShowingTime) shows that home prices are still trending up. In fact, February's median home sale price hit a record high of $410,000; that's the highest we've seen in any February since

Temple Micah Hosts Marjorie’s “Decluttering” Talk

Marjorie was invited to share her strategies to simplify decluttering. Over 20 guests enthusiastically participated in the session on February 11.

This is Marjorie’s second “decluttering” workshop for neighbors who may not be quite ready to sell their home, but are overwhelmed just thinking about moving someday.

Last year, the Cleveland & Woodley Park and Chevy Chase Villages invited their members to discover a simple step-by-step process that has worked for others and how to get the help to make it easier. Over 60 members gathered to listen & learn, ask questions & take notes, and most importantly breathe a little easier.

Marjorie explained the enthusiastic response, “Whether you need more

The Million Dollar Grant, and Another Success Story

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Last year I celebrated my birthday in Kenya. This year was not so exotic… but memorable nonetheless. It kicked off at La Piquette with the Lunch Bunch on Thursday.

Friday night, the grandkids, Sean and Teagan, along with their parents, Cass and Ryan joined us for dinner to bid farewell to Uncle Rhett, who was returning to Emory, and to wish me a Happy Birthday!

My birthday, on Saturday, was bittersweet as Bill and I drove Rhett to Reagan National. He’s a senior. This is it. Baseball practice began Sunday morning. It was about 38 degrees.

We’re excited about Opening Day of his final season, but not about the game time temperature we’re likely to endure on February 3. Graduation is approaching in May and other than being very proud of my 6’-3”

On Wednesday, December 6, over 40 community members gathered for the Cleveland & Woodley Park Village’s annual holiday party at All Souls Episcopal Church. Attendees enjoyed a delicious variety of homemade food and desserts, with a festive backdrop of live music provided by violinist Steven Natrella and pianist Arthur Smith. The program featured various readings including winter-themed poems by Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, Hanukkah traditions, and the Christmas story from the Gospel of St. Luke. The festivities concluded with a joyous sing-a-long of Hanukkah, Christmas, and wintery songs, including Oh Hanukkah, White Christmas, and Let It Snow.
