Rhett Stuart Hurls 5 Perfect Innings!

The Emory Eagles were down 4-0 to Case Western Re-serve after 3 1/2 innings when Rhett was brought in from the bullpen in centerfield. He shut down the #13 nationally ranked Spartans the rest of the game, retiring all 15 batters he faced. Unfortunately, Emory never scored and lost their third consecutive game in Cleveland, after winning the opening game in the series.

Back in Atlanta, in the opener against arch rival Washington University, Rhett stretched his perfect streak to 21 batters, before hitting one with a pitch. He retired the next two batters in the ninth to save the first of three wins against the Bears.

The fourth annual Oral Cancer Awareness Walk & Run in memory of Peter Hoffman will take place on April 14 at the Sligo-Dennis Avenue Park in Silver Spring.

The event is organized by Hoffman’s family, in partnership with the Oral Cancer Foundation during Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and is being held to raise awareness and funds for research of a disease that kills one person every hour in the United States.

The D.C. Fencers Club recently saluted Amanda Sirico (Bowie, MD) and Isaac Shelanski (Washington, D.C.), who both earned individual bronze medals at the 2018 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships.

The championships were held at Pennsylvania State University on March 22 through 25 in which Sirico and Shelanski were two of 144 fencers who were selected to compete.

The lively, sometimes raucous, discussion in Tenleytown about the proposed redevelopment of a church’s property as a Sunrise senior living facility continued last Thursday at a community meeting.

Jonathan McHugh, who sits on Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3E (Tenleytown, Friendship Heights), wondered if a new building at the site of Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church on Alton Place NW can really serve both as a church and a continuing care retirement community.

This is a public service announcement to the high school girls basketball teams in the D.C. area: St. John’s has officially created a dynasty after winning its fourth state title in the last five years on Saturday.

And the area should not expect the run to end any time soon, as the Lady Cadets will graduate just one starter and will have one of the best freshman in the entire country in Azzi Fudd coming back for another three years.
