GALLERY: Wilson boys make it back-to-back DCIAA championships

The Wilson boys’ basketball team defeated Theodore Roosevelt, 71-59 in the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) Championship game at Howard University’s Burr Gymnatisum on Feb. 21.
It was the Tigers’ second conference championship in as many years after not winning one since 1984.
Wilson point guard Ayinde Hikim, who was named the DCIAA’s Most Valuable Player earlier in the week, was named the tournament’s MVP after the win. The senior had 18 points, three assists, two rebounds and two blocks in the final.
Fellow Tigers Dimingus Stevens (12 points) and Jay Heath, Jr. (10 points) each scored at least 10 points as well. Ricky Lindo had a great all-around game with eight points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
It was a much better showing for Roosevelt, who lost to Wilson by 30 points earlier this month. The Roughriders were paced by Marcus Dockery’s 13 points. Teammate Darius Buchanan (10 points) was the only other Roosevelt player to score in double figures.
The Tigers shot nearly 47 percent (22-of-47) for the game, while the Roughriders shot just 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field. Wilson also made seven more free throws than Roosevelt.
Wilson (31-9, 13-0) and Roosevelt (28-7, 12-1) will each compete in the District of Columbia State Athletic Association tournament that begins next week.
